Career Statement

I am currently working as a director and clinical administrator in the department of orthopaedics in Marengo Asia Hospital, Gurgaon. Prior to this, I was heading the unit in Fortis memorial research institute in Gurgaon from August 2012 till June 2016. I started the orthopaedic department in Fortis hospital. As an orthopaedic surgeon with a wealth of experience of over 20 years in complex trauma and elective orthopaedic surgery, both in India and in the UK I have developed a special interest in lower limb joint replacement surgery.

My key area of practice includes revision trauma and revision arthroplasty surgery but I hold a special interest in young adult hips, DDH, sickle cell disease, joint preservation surgery for knee and sports injuries of hip and knee.

Role: This was my thesis during my postgraduate training in trauma and orthopaedics; I led this research project under the guidance of Dr Mathew Varghese. I was the principle researcher and was involved in approval from ethical committee, making flyers for the project, collection and collation of data. National Board of Examination accepted this dissertation and I was awarded the degree in trauma and orthopaedics.

Teaching Experience

Since my basic training rotations I have had a keen interest in teaching and training others. As my career has progressed, I have pursued this desire to improve the knowledge and skills of my colleagues, and my experience includes:

  • Regularly teaching medical students, pre-registration house officers, senior house officers and nursing students through formal lectures, discussion in the ward rounds, in the outpatient clinics and short tutorials, demonstration of clinical signs and reading radiology/other investigations
  • Demonstrating basic surgical and ATLS skills, the relevant anatomy and the steps of the operations while performing them
  • Assisting SHOs on intermediate procedures, including: manipulation of fractures, dynamic hip screw fixation, and intra-articular injection
  • Supporting SHOs with their projects
  • Teaching undergraduate students for the MBBS degree course of the Maharishi Dayanand University
  • Working as a teaching registrar in India
  • Conducting academic activities for final year MBBS students and postgraduate activities
