Question 1

Why choose Total Hip Replacement over Hemiarthroplasty for a hip fracture?

Accepted Answer

Total Hip Replacement (THA) is often preferred for active patients as it provides superior functional outcomes, reduced long-term pain, and a lower rate of reoperation compared to hemiarthroplasty.

Question 2

Who is the ideal candidate for THA in neck femur fractures?

Accepted Answer

Candidates who were walking independently before the injury, are mentally alert, and have no significant cognitive impairment are best suited for total hip replacement surgery.

Question 3

How soon should surgery be performed after a hip fracture?

Accepted Answer

Early surgery (ideally within 48 hours) is recommended to decrease the risk of mortality and medical complications like thromboembolic events or cardiopulmonary issues.
