Question 1

What is Hemi Epiphysiodesis with Eight Plate?

Accepted Answer

Hemi Epiphysiodesis with an Eight Plate is a 'guided growth' surgical procedure used to correct limb deformities in growing children. It involves placing a small plate on one side of the growth plate to temporarily restrain growth on that side while the other side continues to grow, thereby straightening the limb.

Question 2

What conditions can be treated with the Eight Plate technique?

Accepted Answer

This technique is commonly used to treat angular deformities such as Genu Valgum (knock knees) and Genu Varum (bowed legs) in pediatric patients who still have active growth plates.

Question 3

Is the Eight Plate removal necessary?

Accepted Answer

Yes, once the desired correction of the limb alignment is achieved, the Eight Plate is typically removed to allow the growth plate to resume normal, symmetric growth.
